Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav laid the foundation stone for urban development projects worth ₹582.32 crore under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Center in Bhopal on Thursday. The projects primarily focus on enhancing water supply infrastructure and various civic amenities across the city’s municipal wards.
The CM also distributed 31 compassionate appointment letters, handed over appointment letters to 24 new employees, and honored sanitation workers for their dedicated contribution to city cleanliness and hygiene.
Focus on Core Urban Services
Speaking at the event, CM Yadav emphasized the importance of investing in basic civic infrastructure such as clean drinking water, sanitation, drainage, and organized urban architecture. He noted, “Amrit exists when cities exist, and cities thrive when urban areas are strengthened.” He called for similar development ceremonies to be held in all assembly constituencies.
The projects under AMRUT 2.0 are planned with a 30–40 year vision, aiming to ensure sustainable urban growth and equitable resource distribution based on rising population needs. Key components of the project include:
- 4 new intake wells
- 4 water filtration plants
- 36 large water tanks
- 700 km of new pipeline across 450 colonies
- Water connections to 30,000 households
- A target to ensure clean drinking water for Bhopal residents up to the year 2040

Sharp Criticism of Previous Governments
In a pointed political statement, CM Yadav questioned the usage of funds during previous (Congress-led) governments, saying:
“We were the fifth-largest economy, now we are the fourth. Soon, we will become the third. Where did their funds go?”
He also criticized the opposition’s recent stance on the Election Commission, stating that baseless allegations of election rigging were an attack on democratic institutions. “The Election Commission has conducted elections fairly. Still, the Congress is shamelessly questioning its integrity,” he said.
Vision for Bhopal’s Urban Growth
Highlighting Bhopal’s progress, Dr. Yadav said, “The city has not only fulfilled its municipal duties but has earned a top rank in the national cleanliness survey. Very soon, Bhopal’s lake will become as globally renowned as Dal Lake.”
He noted that sewer line projects are underway in 33 major cities, and Bhopal is fast becoming a true metropolitan hub. He also shared that he has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inaugurate future development projects in the city.

Support from Local Leadership
Minister for Cooperation Vishwas Sarang, who was present at the event, praised the CM’s development agenda and took a dig at previous governments:
“We have seen leaders who only performed Bhoomi Pujan ceremonies but never delivered results. Under CM Mohan Yadav, Madhya Pradesh is witnessing real change.”
MLA Rameshwar Sharma, Bhopal Mayor Malti Rai, Corporation President Kishan Suryavanshi, and several other public representatives also attended the event.
The Bhoomi Pujan of ₹582 crore worth of urban infrastructure under AMRUT 2.0 marks a significant milestone in Bhopal’s journey toward sustainable urban transformation. The government’s focus on long-term water supply planning, job creation, and civic dignity reflects its commitment to building a modern, inclusive, and efficient urban ecosystem in Madhya Pradesh.
