Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is gearing up to transform dairy production from merely a source of livelihood into a robust foundation for industrial development and job creation. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has laid out a comprehensive roadmap to enhance milk production, processing, and marketing, aiming to increase farmers’ income and generate new employment opportunities for the youth.
Focus on Increasing Farmers’ Income
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav emphasized the critical role of dairy production in improving rural incomes. He directed that village-level initiatives be strengthened, with farmers receiving training in modern dairy techniques to boost efficiency and productivity. The government will ensure strict monitoring of milk collection systems, promoting transparency and guaranteeing timely payments to producers.
Expansion of the Sanchi Brand
Dr. Yadav instructed authorities to expand the Sanchi brand across all districts, ensuring coordinated dairy operations. He highlighted that branding should incorporate elements of cow culture and rural identity, reinforcing consumer trust and strengthening local traditions.
PPP Model to Boost Dairy Sector
To accelerate dairy growth, the Chief Minister proposed the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, combining private participation with cooperative societies. This initiative aims to promote entrepreneurship, enhance farmers’ earnings, and contribute significantly to the state’s economic growth.
Training Youth in Dairy Technology
Specialized courses in Dairy Technology will be introduced at industrial training institutes to create a skilled workforce capable of managing dairy plants efficiently. This will provide local employment opportunities and ensure operational excellence across the state’s expanding dairy sector.
Strengthening Consumer Trust and Payment Systems
Following the National Dairy Development Board taking over management, consumer confidence in the Sanchi brand has increased. A 10-day payment roster has been established to ensure timely compensation for milk producers. Additionally, milk procurement rates have been increased by ₹2.50 to ₹8.50 per liter.
Rapid Expansion of Dairy Network
The state has formed 1,241 new dairy cooperative societies and reactivated 635 inactive units. Digital solutions have been implemented in dairy unions in Bhopal, Gwalior, Ujjain, Bundelkhand, and Jabalpur, while a mobile app in Indore provides real-time information on milk quantity, quality, and pricing.
Ambitious Targets for 2029-30
The Madhya Pradesh government aims to extend dairy cooperative coverage to 26,000 villages, achieve daily milk collection of 52 lakh kilograms, milk sales of 35 lakh liters per day, and processing capacity of 63.3 lakh liters per day by 2029-30.
Reviving Old Plants and Starting New Ones
Efforts are underway to restart the Shivpuri dairy plant, while Jabalpur’s 10 MT paneer plant will be revived with a ₹5 crore investment. In Indore, a 30 MT milk powder plant is operational, processing 3 lakh liters of milk daily, and Gwalior’s dairy plant is undergoing modernization to enhance efficiency.
The state-level operational committee meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Yadav at Samta Bhavan, was attended by senior officials from the National Dairy Development Board, Madhya Pradesh State Cooperative Dairy Federation, and elected representatives, emphasizing collaborative efforts to boost the dairy sector.
