With the state government extending the tenure of Chief Secretary Mr. Anurag Jain, a 1989-batch IAS officer, the long-pending transfer list of IAS officers in Madhya Pradesh is now expected to be released shortly. The delay in finalising transfers was reportedly due to uncertainty over Mr. Jain’s extension, which has now been resolved.
Several key departments and administrative posts are currently being handled by in-charge officers, causing operational gaps and increasing the urgency for formal appointments.
Key Changes Likely in Ujjain and Indore
One of the most anticipated changes is in Ujjain, where Mr. Ratnakar Jha (2012-batch IAS officer), currently the Additional Commissioner, has been working as in-charge Commissioner for over a month.
The post fell vacant after Mr. Sanjay Gupta (2007-batch IAS officer) retired on July 31, and no successor has yet been officially appointed. Sources within the government indicate that Mr. Asheesh Singh, the Indore Collector and a 2010-batch officer, is the frontrunner for the Ujjain Commissioner post.
This, in turn, may lead to a new appointment for Indore Collector. Among the names being considered, Mr. Shivam Verma, currently Commissioner of Indore Municipal Corporation, is emerging as a strong contender.
Barwani and Other Districts to See Changes
In Barwani district, Ms. Guncha Sanobar (2015-batch IAS officer), the sitting Collector, is on leave, and Ms. Kajal Jawla (2018-batch IAS officer), CEO of the District Panchayat, is handling responsibilities as in-charge Collector. A permanent appointment is expected soon.
Moreover, collectors of key districts such as Bhopal, Rewa, Jabalpur, Betul, and Bhind may also be reshuffled as part of the broader administrative overhaul being considered by the state government.
Key Vacancy in Home Department as Retirement Nears
Another crucial appointment is imminent at the Home Department, where Additional Chief Secretary Mr. J.N. Kansotiya (1989-batch IAS officer) is set to retire on August 31. The government is deliberating between Mr. Anupam Rajan (1993-batch) and Mr. K.C. Gupta (1992-batch) to fill the position.
Additionally, some departments in the Mantralaya (state secretariat) are expected to see internal reassignments and structural changes as the government streamlines administrative functioning post-monsoon session.
Awaited Move to Strengthen Governance and Delivery
The upcoming reshuffle is being viewed as a step towards enhancing governance efficiency in the state. With several districts and departments operating under interim arrangements, formal appointments are expected to restore decision-making stability and improve public service delivery.
Given the scale of changes, this reshuffle could also impact ongoing development projects, law and order oversight, and election preparedness, especially with local body polls on the horizon.
