Chandigarh: In a major boost to Punjab’s economy, the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has projected an estimated credit potential of ₹3.08 lakh crore for FY 2026-27 under its State Focus Paper (Potential Linked Credit Plan).
This marks a 10.37% increase compared to the previous financial year, reflecting a strong push toward economic expansion. Notably, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector has been given the highest priority this year.
₹1.35 Lakh Crore Allocated for MSME Sector
NABARD has earmarked over ₹1.35 lakh crore for the MSME sector, making it the largest beneficiary under the projected credit plan.
The move is expected to:
- Strengthen small and medium industries
- Boost employment generation
- Enhance industrial productivity
- Support Punjab’s economic diversification
According to B. Ramesh Babu, Chief General Manager, NABARD, both agriculture and MSMEs have been categorized as priority sectors this year to accelerate inclusive growth.
₹1.25 Lakh Crore for Agriculture and Allied Activities
While MSMEs received the highest allocation, agriculture remains a key focus area.
Agriculture Credit Break-Up:
- ₹1.10 lakh crore for agricultural loans
- ₹9,190 crore for agricultural infrastructure
- ₹5,760 crore for allied agricultural activities
The allocation aims to support farm modernization, infrastructure development, and value addition across Punjab’s agricultural ecosystem.
Sector-Wise Credit Allocation for FY 2026-27
Apart from MSMEs and agriculture, NABARD has projected credit potential for several other key sectors:
- ₹17,510 crore for exports
- ₹17,240 crore for housing
- ₹6,050 crore for education
- ₹3,390 crore for social infrastructure
- ₹1,280 crore for renewable energy
- ₹2,760 crore for other sectors
This diversified allocation is designed to ensure balanced and sustainable economic development across Punjab.

NABARD has reiterated its commitment to working closely with the Punjab Government to strengthen industrial units and expand financial inclusion.
