National Energy Conservation Day was celebrated today at the Dr. Tenneti Viswanatham Auditorium, Learning and Development Center, Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. The program was inaugurated by Mr. A.K. Bagchi, Director (Projects) and additional charge Director (Operations) of RINL, along with Mr. S.C. Pandey, Director (Personnel); Mr. S.V.G. Ganesh, Director (Finance); Mr. G.V.N. Prasad, Director (Commercial); Mr. R. Mohanti, CGM (Works)-Incharge; and Mr. A.K. Sobti, CGM (Marketing).
Mr. A.K. Bagchi, the chief guest, encouraged employees to focus on energy conservation and operate facilities efficiently to reduce costs. He lauded the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL) for winning the National Energy Leader Award six times and the Excellent Energy Efficient Unit Award eight times, commending the Energy Management Department for its awareness campaigns across departments and schools.
Mr. R. Mohanti highlighted RINL’s adoption of advanced energy conservation technologies, including Coke Dry Quenching, Top Pressure Recovery Turbines, and Sinter Cooler Waste Heat Recovery. He also discussed the implementation of the Green Steel Taxonomy initiative under India’s PANCHAMRIT energy policy.
Awards were presented to departments for innovative energy projects, while employees and schoolchildren were recognized for their achievements in energy conservation competitions. Two skits by employees and children on energy conservation captivated the audience.
Around 3,500 participants, including trade union representatives and employees, attended the celebrations, showcasing RINL’s commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency. RINL remains a leader in adopting energy-efficient practices, aligning with national goals for sustainable development.
