Bhopal: Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has lauded the upcoming Navankur Sakhi Hariyali Yatra, an ambitious five-day green initiative set to begin across Madhya Pradesh on Hariyali Amavasya (July 24). At a poster unveiling ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s residence on Wednesday, Dr. Yadav called on citizens to connect deeply with nature and actively support environmental preservation.
Organized by the Madhya Pradesh Jan Abhiyan Parishad, the Yatra will cover 1,565 sectors in 313 development blocks and aims to create a grassroots movement led by women volunteers called Navankur Sakhis.
“The Navankur Sakhi Hariyali Yatra is an excellent example of how community participation, especially women’s involvement, can lead the way in environmental protection,” the Chief Minister stated during the release.

Massive Participation: 1.56 Lakh Women to Grow Over 17 Lakh Plants
Under this campaign, 1,56,500 women volunteers — identified as Navankur Sakhis — will cultivate saplings in their own home gardens using 11 pre-seeded and germinated planting bags provided by the Parishad.
- In each development block, around 5,500 saplings will be grown.
- The state-wide target is a remarkable 17,21,500 saplings across all blocks.
These saplings will later be planted on private or public land under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (One Tree in Mother’s Name) campaign on special family occasions or government-led planting drives.
A Women-Led Green Revolution
Speaking at the event, Council Vice President Mohan Nagar emphasized the importance of women in leading the state’s green movement. “The environmental mission, driven by voluntary female participation, reflects the power of community-led sustainability,” he said.
The screening of a short film during the event showcased the expected impact of the initiative and highlighted previous successful campaigns by the Parishad.
An Innovative Environmental Movement
Dr. Yadav, who also serves as President of the MP Jan Abhiyan Parishad, commended the council’s innovative strategy in combining environmental protection with grassroots participation. He congratulated the Navankur Sakhis and urged them to continue their efforts with dedication.
Also present at the poster release were Dr. Bakul Lad, Executive Director of the Parishad, along with senior officials and volunteers.
