New Delhi: Singrauli-based flagship subsidiary of Coal India, Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under CSR with the Avanti Bai Self-Help Group, Piparkhad to promote women’s health and encourage a healthy lifestyle.
The MoU was formalized on Monday and marks a significant step towards improving menstrual health awareness and women’s empowerment in rural areas of Singrauli and Sonbhadra districts.
CSR Initiative: Supplying Sanitary Pads to Schools
Under the MoU, NCL will provide financial support to ensure the regular supply of ‘Pakhi’ sanitary pads for a period of three years to 28 schools across Singrauli and Sonbhadra districts.
- The initiative will directly benefit around 8,000 schoolgirls.
- It aims to improve access to safe menstrual hygiene products.
- Awareness campaigns will address menstrual health education and myths surrounding it.
This initiative seeks not only to safeguard health but also to promote school attendance and confidence among adolescent girls.
Empowering Rural Women Through Employment and Skill Development
The ‘Pakhi’ sanitary pad manufacturing unit at Piparkhad village was established under CSR by NCL’s Jhingurda Area in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi.
- The unit is operated by women of the Avanti Bai Self-Help Group under the National Rural Livelihood Mission.
- Women involved in the unit receive training on menstrual health and hygiene awareness.
- The initiative provides employment opportunities, skill enhancement, and economic empowerment for rural women.
Through this CSR effort, local women are gaining self-reliance while contributing to the community’s health and well-being.
