Infrastructure major Patel Engineering Ltd. has secured a significant contract worth ₹718 crore from the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) for the development of the 240 MW HEO Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. The project represents a major step forward in India’s commitment to green energy development in the North-Eastern region.
The scope of the contract includes civil construction, development of associated infrastructure, testing and commissioning of hydro-mechanical equipment, and ensuring the smooth operation of all power-generating units. Scheduled for completion within 44 months, the project is expected to generate approximately 1,000 million units (MU) of electricity annually once operational.
Founded in 1949, Patel Engineering is one of India’s most experienced infrastructure and construction service companies. The firm has delivered projects across diverse sectors including dams, tunnels, hydroelectric plants, micro-runnels, irrigation systems, as well as roads and highways.
NEEPCO, a central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, plays a key role in electricity generation in the North-East. This hydropower initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to enhance renewable energy capacity and infrastructure in the region.
The collaboration between Patel Engineering and NEEPCO is expected to significantly boost local infrastructure, create employment opportunities, and contribute to India’s long-term renewable energy goals.
