New Delhi: In alignment with the global theme “End Plastic Pollution”, leading public sector enterprises NHPC Limited and RITES Limited observed World Environment Day 2025 with a series of impactful initiatives centered on environmental conservation and sustainable development.
NHPC Champions Clean Energy and Green Practices
NHPC Limited, a Navratna enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, marked the occasion with tree plantation drives, publication of sustainability documents, and a renewed pledge toward eco-conscious operations.
At the NHPC Residential Complex in Faridabad, Chairman & Managing Director Mr R.K. Chaudhary, along with Directors R.P. Goyal (Finance), Uttam Lal (Personnel), Sanjay Kumar Singh (Projects) and Suprakash Adhikari (Technical) led a plantation programme by planting fruit-bearing saplings. Senior officers and employees participated enthusiastically in the event.

A key highlight of the celebrations was the release of NHPC’s Sustainability Report and a booklet on its Environmental Policies, underscoring the company’s mission to integrate responsible practices into hydropower development and operations. NHPC’s vision continues to focus on optimizing natural resource utilization using state-of-the-art technologies, aiming to maintain global benchmarks in clean energy generation.
RITES Limited Drives Awareness Through ‘Act Now For Tomorrow’ Campaign
RITES Limited, a leading transport infrastructure consultancy and engineering firm under the Ministry of Railways, commemorated World Environment Day through a two-week-long campaign from May 22 to June 5. The initiative, titled ‘Act Now For Tomorrow’, was dedicated to mobilizing collective action against plastic pollution and fostering sustainable lifestyles.

The campaign was launched with a green pledge, followed by a variety of interactive and awareness-driven activities including-
- Plastic Collection Drives
- Slogan Writing Competitions
- Eco-awareness Quizzes
- ‘Best Out of Waste’ Contests
- Plogging Events (jogging with garbage collection) across RITES offices
The campaign concluded on a high note with the ‘RITES Ecostep Plog Challenge’ on June 5, organized in collaboration with NGO Yuva Unstoppable at Government Senior Secondary School, Islampur, Gurugram. The event featured participation from senior management and employees, showcasing RITES’ commitment to environmental responsibility and community engagement.
Through this campaign, RITES reaffirmed its mission to embed sustainability across its core operations—driven by the brand philosophy: “We Shape What Shapes Lives.”
Both NHPC and RITES demonstrated that meaningful environmental action begins at the organizational level, with leaders setting examples through proactive engagement. Their celebrations serve as a call to action for other public and private sector enterprises to adopt greener policies and contribute to India’s growing environmental movement.
