New Delhi: State-owned NHPC Limited announced on Tuesday that it will commence investments in the 750-MW Kuppa Pumped Storage Project in the new fiscal year. Initially expected to begin in FY25, the timeline for the commencement of investment has been adjusted to FY26 due to delays in the survey and investigation works, which were halted due to circumstances beyond the company’s control. NHPC emphasized that these works are expected to resume as soon as possible.
The Kuppa Pumped Storage Project is located in Chhota Udaipur, Gujarat, and the investment is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between NHPC and Gujarat Power Corporation Limited (GPCL). The project will require an estimated investment of Rs 4,000 crore.
In March 2024, NHPC signed an agreement with GPCL for the development of this ambitious 750-MW pumped hydro storage project, which is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening the renewable energy capacity and energy storage capabilities of the region.
With the resumption of work on the Kuppa Pumped Storage Project, NHPC remains committed to bolstering India’s energy infrastructure and contributing to its renewable energy goals.
