New Delhi: ITI Limited, India’s first public sector undertaking (PSU) post-independence, has received official appreciation from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for its vital contribution to the successful launch of the NISAR satellite – a landmark collaborative mission between NASA and ISRO.
The recognition pertains to ITI’s Palakkad unit, which supplied 28 Avionics Packages and 18 Head-end Mounted Safe Arm (HMSA) packages that were integrated into the GSLV-F16 launch vehicle, which lifted off on July 30 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
Precision Engineering Behind a Historic Mission
The avionics systems supplied by ITI were fabricated to meet the stringent quality standards of ISRO’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC). These systems played a critical role in ensuring the safety, stability, and performance of the launch vehicle carrying the high-value NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite.
The $1.5 billion satellite, weighing 2,393 kg, is equipped with advanced dual-band radar technology to monitor global environmental changes, including glacial shifts, land surface deformation, and sea-level rise.
CMD Rajesh Rai: “A Proud Moment for ITI”
Reacting to ISRO’s appreciation, Rajesh Rai, Chairman and Managing Director of ITI Limited, said, “It is a very proud moment for ITI Limited to receive this appreciation from ISRO. The trust reposed in us speaks volumes about the top-quality work being delivered by our Palakkad unit. We are honoured to have contributed to landmark missions including Chandrayaan, Mangalyaan, Aditya-L1, and LVM3 M2/OneWeb India-1.”
He added that ITI is looking forward to playing a role in future missions, particularly the highly anticipated Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme.
ISRO Praises ITI’s Consistency and Commitment
Echoing the sentiment, Sheena Abraham, Group Director of the Electronics Production Group, ESAE, ISRO, stated –
“We laud the efforts of Team ITI, Palakkad, in the fabrication and testing of avionics packages for GSLV-F16. The unwavering support of industries like ITI, adhering to ISRO’s exacting standards, was integral to the success of this joint venture.”
A Trusted Partner in India’s Space Journey
ITI Limited has emerged as one of ISRO’s most reliable industry partners, consistently delivering high-quality flight and avionics packages for India’s major space missions. The Palakkad unit, in particular, has been instrumental in enabling the realisation of critical components that demand extreme precision and reliability.
As India expands its space ambitions through missions like Gaganyaan, Shukrayaan, and future OneWeb launches, PSUs like ITI are expected to remain integral to ISRO’s industry collaboration ecosystem.
