Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday transferred a total of ₹2,500 crore directly to the bank accounts of 25 lakh women under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana. Each beneficiary received ₹10,000, a significant step towards encouraging self-employment and strengthening women’s economic participation in the state.
The event was conducted at the state level, with a large number of women joining virtually via video conferencing. CM Kumar personally inaugurated the transfer, marking another milestone in the state’s efforts to empower women financially.
Empowering Women to Start Their Own Businesses
During the program, CM Nitish Kumar highlighted that the financial assistance is aimed at helping women become self-reliant and start small businesses. Women who successfully use the funds to establish employment will also be eligible for additional assistance of up to ₹2 lakh in the future.
The scheme has already benefited 1.56 crore women previously, disbursing ₹15,600 crore. With this latest transfer, the total beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana have reached 1.81 crore women across Bihar.
Strengthening Self-Help Groups and Economic Independence
The CM emphasized that the state government has consistently prioritized women’s empowerment. Over the years, the number of self-help groups (SHGs) in Bihar has grown significantly, allowing women to gain financial independence and establish a distinct presence in their communities.
Through the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana, women can now contribute meaningfully to family income and enhance the state’s economic growth.
‘Saat Nischay-3’ Program and Future Development
This initiative is part of the ‘Saat Nischay-3’ program, which aims to accelerate Bihar’s development over the next five years. Under the previous target, ‘Double Employment – Double Income’, each family member’s income was set to be doubled. The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana aligns with this goal by providing ₹10,000 per woman to start self-employment ventures and boost household income.
Key Officials and Widespread Participation
Senior government officials, including Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Water Resources & Parliamentary Affairs Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, and Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar, were present during the program. District officials from all regions and thousands of women beneficiaries joined the event through video conferencing, highlighting the widespread reach of the scheme.
Driving Women’s Economic Empowerment in Bihar
The Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana is regarded as a major step in Bihar’s women empowerment agenda. By directly supporting women financially, the state government aims to strengthen family incomes, encourage entrepreneurship, and contribute to overall economic development in Bihar.
