Noida: Amid escalating violence during factory workers’ protests in Noida, the Uttar Pradesh Government has constituted a high-powered committee to resolve the ongoing industrial dispute and restore normalcy.
The decision comes following directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as tensions continue over workers’ demand for a minimum monthly salary of ₹20,000.
12-Member High-Powered Committee Formed
The newly formed committee comprises 12 members, including senior government officials and representatives from both labour unions and industrial associations.
- The Industrial Development Commissioner will serve as the Chairperson
- The Labour Commissioner will act as the Member Secretary
Members include:
- Additional Chief Secretary (MSME)
- Principal Secretary, Labour and Employment
- Five representatives from labour unions
- Three representatives from industrial bodies
The panel has been tasked with resolving industrial discord, safeguarding workers’ interests, and facilitating dialogue between all stakeholders.

Committee Reaches Ground Zero for Talks
The high-powered committee has already reached Noida and begun efforts to engage with workers, employers, and officials to build consensus and restore harmony.
Authorities have assured that a resolution will be found at the earliest, while also warning that any attempts to disturb law and order for political or vested interests will be thoroughly investigated.
The government has made it clear that anarchy will not be tolerated in the state.
Violence Erupts Across Industrial Areas
The protest turned violent on Monday, with major unrest reported in Phase-2 and Sector-60 areas of Noida.
- Vehicles were set on fire
- Stone-pelting incidents were reported
- Public and private property was damaged
The situation led to massive disruption, with traffic coming to a standstill on key routes leading to Delhi. Long queues of vehicles were seen at the Delhi-Noida border, affecting thousands of commuters during peak hours.
Highways Blocked, Protests Spread
Workers gathered in large numbers across industrial sectors including Sector-62 and Sector-84, raising slogans and staging demonstrations.
In a major escalation, protesters blocked National Highway-9, intensifying the disruption and signaling growing unrest.
Officials have deployed heavy police forces across the Gautam Buddha Nagar Commissionerate to control the situation.
DM Medha Rupam’s Earlier Measures Fall Short
Earlier, District Magistrate Medha Rupam had announced 11 measures to improve working conditions, including:
- Double overtime pay
- Weekly holidays
- Timely salary payments
- Workplace safety mechanisms
She had also appealed to workers to maintain peace and resume work, assuring them that their concerns were being addressed.
However, the core issue of wage revision remains unresolved, which continues to fuel dissatisfaction.
Why Workers Remain Unyielding
Despite government intervention, workers have refused to back down. A key reason behind the continued agitation is the lack of response from companies regarding salary hikes.
Officials noted that:
- Companies failed to provide clarity even by Saturday
- No significant response was issued on Sunday
- This silence triggered renewed protests on Monday
As a result, workers took to the streets again, and the agitation has intensified and spread, with fears of it expanding to other cities.
Situation Remains Tense
While the administration is making efforts to restore order through dialogue and enforcement, the situation in Noida remains highly sensitive.
The success of the newly formed committee will be crucial in determining whether the ongoing crisis can be resolved peacefully or if unrest continues to escalate.
