Ranchi: The 39th Zonal Mine Rescue Competition 2025 concluded with spectacular fanfare at Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) Headquarters in Ranchi on Thursday evening. Organized under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), the competition witnessed exceptional display of rescue skills and safety protocols.
The North Karanpura (NK) Area team emerged as the undisputed champion, bagging the Overall Best Team Award. The team’s stellar performance across various rescue scenarios set them apart from other participants.
39th Zonal Mine Rescue Competition 2025: Two Days Of Intense Competition
The competition was held from October 8-9, 2025, at the Mine Rescue Centre, Ramgarh, and Bhurkunda Underground Mine. Teams from different CCL areas participated in rigorous rescue operations tests, demonstrating their preparedness for real-world emergencies.
Barka Sayal Area secured the second position with commendable performance, while Magadh-Sanghamitra Area claimed the third spot. The competition tested participants on multiple parameters including promptness, technical skills, and adherence to safety protocols.
Distinguished Gathering At Closing Ceremony
The prize distribution and closing ceremony was presided over by Mr. Nilendu Kumar Singh, Chairman-cum-Managing Director, CCL. Dr. S. S. Prasad, Deputy Director General of Mines Safety (Southeastern Region), graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
Other senior dignitaries included Mr. Pawan Kumar Mishra, Director (Finance), Mr. C. S. Tiwari, Director (Technical/Operations), and Mr. Pankaj Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer, CCL. On behalf of DGMS, Mr. Ajit Kumar, Director of Mines Safety, served as the Chief Judge.

Dr. S. S. Prasad emphasized the critical importance of cultivating a robust safety culture in mining operations.
He lauded the courage, promptness, and dedication displayed by rescue teams throughout the competition.
“The rescue teams have demonstrated exceptional commitment to safety. It is imperative that we make safety an integral part of our workplace ethos,” Dr. Prasad said.
CMD Mr. Nilendu Kumar Singh reiterated that safety remains the topmost priority for CCL. He congratulated all participating teams and the organizing committee for ensuring the event’s success.
“These competitions are not just about winning. They are about building capabilities that can save lives during actual emergencies,” Singh emphasized.

Certificates and awards were distributed to participants who excelled in various stages of the competition.

Cultural Extravaganza Adds Color
The ceremony began with the traditional lighting of the lamp and rendition of the Coal India Corporate Song.
A military band from the Punjab Regiment presented an inspiring performance to welcome the guests.
Students from DAV School, Gandhinagar, Ranchi, captivated the audience with multiple performances. Their Ganesh Vandana, musical presentation, Mahishasura Mardini dance, and theatrical presentation on mine rescue operations received thunderous applause from attendees.
Strengthening Emergency Response
Mine rescue competitions serve as crucial training platforms for emergency response teams. They help sharpen skills and test knowledge that could prove life-saving during actual mine emergencies.
The competition required team members to solve hypothetical problems while being timed and observed by judges according to complex rules. This standardized evaluation ensures teams are genuinely prepared for real-world scenarios.
The event was attended by General Manager (Safety & Rescue) Mr. Vinod Kumar, Heads of various departments, General Managers from different areas, Superintendent (Rescue Service) Mr. Vikas Kumar, CCL officers and employees, and representatives of JCSC, Safety Board, and Welfare Board.
