New Delhi: Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has entered into a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research Guwahati to collaborate on research for developing pathways and processes to produce Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) from petroleum- and biomass-derived products. The initiative aims to promote sustainable technologies and enhance domestic API manufacturing capabilities.
MoA Signing Ceremony
The MoA was signed by Mr. Rupam Kumar Sarmah, General Manager (Technical Services), NRL, and Prof. (Dr.) U.S.N. Murty, Director, NIPER-Guwahati. The ceremony was witnessed by the Managing Director of NRL along with senior officials from both NRL and NIPER-Guwahati, marking a significant step in strengthening industry–academia partnerships in India.
Objectives of the Collaboration
The collaboration will focus on:
- Developing innovative pathways for API production using petroleum and biomass feedstocks
- Leveraging NRL’s expertise in refining and biorefinery operations
- Utilizing NIPER-Guwahati’s research strengths in pharmaceutical sciences
- Promoting sustainable technologies and value-added applications
- Supporting national priorities for self-reliance in domestic API production
This partnership is expected to accelerate research in renewable feedstocks while fostering cutting-edge solutions in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
