NTPC and Evren Sign PPA for 300 MW of Firm and Dispatchable Renewable Energy

Partnership integrates solar, wind, and battery storage to deliver reliable green power for peak demand periods.
Indian Masterminds Stories

In a major boost to India’s clean energy ambitions, NTPC Limited and Evren, a renewable energy platform launched by Brookfield in India, have signed a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for 300 MW of firm and dispatchable renewable energy. This strategic collaboration marks a significant step in delivering round-the-clock green power by combining solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

According to a company statement issued on Monday, the agreement is expected to enable the development of nearly 1 gigawatt (GW) of renewable capacity through a hybrid model that ensures consistent power output – even during periods of low sunlight or wind.

Firm and Dispatchable Green Energy: A Game Changer
Unlike conventional renewables that are weather-dependent, firm and dispatchable renewable energy solutions offer reliable power delivery, especially during peak demand hours. By integrating solar PV, wind turbines, and battery storage, the NTPC-Evren system will store surplus energy and release it when needed – helping power distribution companies (discoms) manage demand-supply fluctuations more effectively.

This approach addresses a core challenge in the transition to renewables: intermittency. The ability to dispatch clean energy on demand not only enhances grid stability but also accelerates the shift from fossil fuels to sustainable alternatives.

Strategic Importance for India’s Energy Goals
This collaboration is aligned with India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, as part of its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement.

By ensuring round-the-clock (RTC) renewable power, the NTPC-Evren project not only contributes to emissions reduction and energy security but also fosters industrial development and supports the country’s broader sustainable growth agenda.

NTPC: Powering the Transition
NTPC Ltd., India’s largest power utility and a central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Power, has been at the forefront of India’s energy evolution. Traditionally a leader in thermal power generation, NTPC is now expanding aggressively into renewables to align with India’s climate goals and decarbonization roadmap.

The partnership with Evren is a key part of NTPC’s strategy to lead in hybrid and storage-integrated renewable solutions, signaling its commitment to innovation and sustainability.

Evren: Brookfield’s Green Energy Arm in India
Evren, backed by global asset management leader Brookfield, was established to drive renewable energy growth in India. With this 300 MW PPA, Evren strengthens its position as a next-generation energy provider delivering scalable, reliable, and clean power solutions.
