NTPC Kaniha Honored with Top National Awards for Excellence in Environmental Management and Sustainability

Talcher-based power plant recognized for outstanding pollution control and sustainability efforts

Bhubaneswar & Lonavala: NTPC Kaniha has proudly secured two prestigious awards that highlight its exceptional commitment to environmental management and sustainability. The plant was lauded at two major events held recently, underscoring its leadership in pollution abatement and sustainable practices.

Kalinga Environment Excellence National Award – 2024 in Five Star Category

At the 10th National Conclave on Environment, Energy and Climate Change (EECC) held in Bhubaneswar on 21st June 2025, NTPC Kaniha received the coveted Kalinga Environment Excellence National Award – 2024 in the Five Star Category, the highest tier of recognition. This award acknowledges the plant’s remarkable performance in environment management and mitigation of pollution.

The prestigious event was sponsored by key organizations including the Odisha State Pollution Control Board, Odisha State Productivity Council, and the Institute of Public Enterprise, Hyderabad.

Mr K. Narasimha Reddy, Executive Director and Head of Plant at NTPC Kaniha, received the award in the presence of distinguished dignitaries such as H.E. Prof. Joyce Kakuramatsi Kikafunda, High Commissioner of the Republic of Uganda; Smt. Uma Nanduri, IFS, Member Secretary of the State Pollution Control Board & PCCF Kendu Leaf, Government of Odisha; and Shri Ashok Kumar Tripathy, IAS (Retd), President of Odisha State Productivity Council.

Platinum Award for Sustainability from Green Enviro Foundation

In addition to the national accolade, NTPC Kaniha also earned the Platinum Award—the highest category—for outstanding achievement in “Sustainability” by the Green Enviro Foundation. This recognition was presented during the Green Enviro Environment Award and Summit on 19th June 2025 in Lonavala.

The award ceremony was graced by Shri Suresh Prabhu, Former Union Minister and Chairman of the Indian Chamber of Food and Agriculture (ICFA). Representing NTPC Talcher Kaniha, Rabi Shankar Verma, Senior Manager (Environmental Management Group), and AL Mohammad Idris KS, Senior Manager (Ash Utilization), accepted the award on behalf of the plant.
