Ghatampur – Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLC India Limited (51%) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) (49%), has achieved early synchronization of Unit-2 (660 MW) of its 1,980 MW Ghatampur Thermal Power Project. The synchronization with the 765 kV grid was completed in a single, seamless attempt following successful steam blowing—well ahead of the scheduled timeline.
This milestone marks a significant step in the project’s journey toward Commercial Operation Declaration (COD) and reaffirms NUPPL’s commitment to delivering 31.68 million units of reliable, cleaner power to the nation.
Moving Ahead with Precision and Collaboration

Commenting on the achievement, Shri Prasanna Kumar Motupalli, CMD of NLC India and Chairman of NUPPL, said:
“This accomplishment is the result of the unwavering focus and dedicated efforts of NUPPL, NLCIL, and UPRVUNL, supported by the Ministry of Coal, our Board, and valued contracting partners.”
With Unit-1 already operational since December 2024, this successful synchronization of Unit-2 places NUPPL in strong position to move forward with final commissioning. Unit-3 is expected to be commissioned in FY 2025–26, completing the project’s full capacity of 1,980 MW.
Powering Uttar Pradesh and Beyond

Strategically located in Ghatampur Tehsil of Kanpur Nagar, the plant houses three supercritical thermal units of 660 MW each. Once fully operational, it will supply 75.12% (1,487.28 MW) of power to Uttar Pradesh and the remaining 24.88% (492.72 MW) to Assam, making it a critical contributor to regional power security.
Fuel for the plant will be sourced from the Pachwara South Coal Block in Dumka, Jharkhand—currently under integrated development by NUPPL—ensuring long-term fuel sustainability.
Building for Efficiency and the Environment
The Ghatampur project exemplifies modern, environment-conscious power infrastructure. It features state-of-the-art supercritical boiler and TG systems, along with advanced Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD), Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR), and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) facilities to minimize environmental impact.
With Unit-2 now synchronized, NUPPL is on the cusp of completing final commissioning, accelerating India’s journey toward cleaner, more reliable thermal power.
