Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court will rehear the criminal revision petition filed by 1988 batch IAS officer Y. Srilakshmi, who is among the accused in the high-profile Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) illegal mining case. The decision comes after the Supreme Court remanded the case back to the High Court, stating that the earlier HC ruling had not fully considered the arguments presented by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Justice K. Lakshman on Monday directed the High Court Registry to relist the matter before his bench for a fresh hearing, following the apex court’s directive.
Background of the Case
Srilakshmi, an Andhra Pradesh-cadre IAS officer, was named as an accused in the OMC case, which involves serious allegations of illegal mining activities. The CBI special court had earlier dismissed her petition seeking discharge from the case, prompting her to file a revision petition before the High Court.
The Telangana High Court, in its earlier ruling, had allowed her plea, setting aside the special court’s decision. However, the CBI challenged this outcome in the Supreme Court, arguing that its contentions were not adequately considered during the revision hearing.
Agreeing with the CBI, the Supreme Court remanded the case back to the Telangana HC, leading to the latest development.
Parallel Proceedings Continue
The High Court’s direction came during the hearing of bail petitions filed by Gali Janardhan Reddy and others, who were convicted and sentenced to seven years in prison in the same case. Reddy, a former Karnataka minister, has been at the centre of the OMC illegal mining scandal for over a decade.
