The Odisha government has appointed Manoj Kumar Sahoo, a 2006-batch IAS officer, as the Special Secretary to Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, as per a notification issued by the General Administration & Public Grievance (GA&PG) Department.
The notification states, “Shri Manoj Kumar Sahoo, IAS (RR-2006), on joining the State government on Inter-Cadre Deputation, is appointed as Special Secretary to the Hon’ble Chief Minister.”
This move follows the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approval of Sahoo’s inter-cadre deputation to Odisha, granted on November 17, for a period of three years. Sahoo, an officer of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre, was previously serving as the Deputy Election Commissioner in the Election Commission office in Delhi.
A native of Singapur village in Jagatsinghapur district, Sahoo has an impressive administrative track record. He has held several key positions, including District Magistrate in Dadra Nagar Haveli, Daman, and as Collector in West Siang and Kurung Kumey districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Additionally, Sahoo has served as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation in Delhi, where he played a crucial role in the success of the Har Ghar Jal program, a flagship drinking water initiative under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The appointment is seen as part of the Odisha government’s effort to leverage Sahoo’s extensive experience in administrative leadership and public service to enhance governance in the state.
