Bhubaneswar: In a recent administrative reshuffle, the Odisha Government has appointed Prathamesh Arvind Rajeshirke, a 2021-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as the new Commissioner of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC).
The appointment was formalized through a notification issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department on Friday.
From Balasore to Berhampur: Transition into Urban Governance Leadership
Before taking up this new role, Rajeshirke was serving as the Sub-Collector of Balasore, in addition to discharging duties as the Executive Officer of Balasore Municipality. His dual responsibilities highlighted his administrative versatility, which the government appears to be leveraging in a larger urban governance role.
Immediate Relieving and Assumption of Charge Ordered
The notification directed Rajeshirke to immediately relieve himself of current duties and take over the Commissioner’s charge in Berhampur without delay, signifying the urgency and importance attached to the post.
BeMC Commissioner Post Accorded Deputy Secretary Status
Further, the post of BeMC Commissioner has been granted the status equivalent to that of a Deputy Secretary in the Odisha government hierarchy, underscoring its significance in the state’s administrative framework.
