New Delhi/Duliajan: Oil India Limited (OIL), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, held its 66th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, presenting a strong performance report for FY 2024–25 and laying out a future-ready roadmap aligned with Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
Landmark Achievements: First-Ever Bamboo-Based 2G Bio-Ethanol Plant
In a historic milestone, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the world’s first bamboo-based 2G Bio-Ethanol Plant at Numaligarh, Assam, on September 14, 2025. The project is a major step toward India’s bio-energy transition, import substitution, and Make in India goals.
PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for a ₹7,000+ crore 360 KTPA polypropylene plant at Numaligarh, to be implemented by Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), a group company of OIL. The new facility will boost NRL’s petrochemical intensity index by four times.

FY25: Record Oil & Gas Production, Strong Financial Performance
Delivering the highest-ever production in its history, OIL achieved–
- 6.710 MMTOE cumulative production (oil + oil-equivalent gas)
- 3,252 MMSCM natural gas production – the highest ever
On the financial side, the company reported–
- Standalone income: ₹23,987 crore
- Consolidated income: ₹37,830 crore
- Standalone net profit: ₹6,114 crore (27.64% margin)
- Consolidated net profit: ₹7,040 crore (19.47% margin)
OIL also sustained a capital investment of over ₹18,000 crore (consolidated), maintaining its commitment to long-term growth and shareholder value.
Technology and Innovation: Propelling Efficiency
CMD Dr. Ranjit Rath highlighted OIL’s cutting-edge initiatives such as–
- Propellant stimulation
- Fishbone drilling techniques
- AI-driven reservoir modeling
These have enabled cost optimisation, improved recovery rates, and enhanced operational efficiency across the board.
Accelerating Sustainability: From Net Zero to Green Fuels
OIL continues to progress toward its Net Zero 2040 target, ahead of India’s Net Zero 2070 vision–
- 59% reduction in gas flaring (YoY)
- Investments in carbon capture, energy efficiency, and renewables
- Expansion of green hydrogen, 2G biofuels, compressed biogas (CBG), and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) projects
Upcoming projects include–
- Tripling of Numaligarh Refinery capacity
- India’s first large-scale SAF facility
- Green Hydrogen Pilot Projects
- Enhanced bio-ethanol production infrastructure
