New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Sudhansu Mohan Samal (IAS), Managing Director of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), recently conducted a two-day field visit to key mining operations in southern Odisha. The visit aimed to review production performance, safety standards, and the progress of corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives undertaken by the corporation.
Accompanying him were Director (Operations) Sabyasachi Mohanty, Director (HR) Alok Pal, and Director (Finance) Banabihari Pani.
Ampavalli Limestone Mine: Focus on Production and Safety
During the first day, the OMC delegation visited the Ampavalli Limestone Mine, where they closely reviewed ongoing mining operations, safety protocols, and production levels.
Dr. Samal interacted directly with mine officials and workers, assessing operational efficiency and discussing strategies to enhance output while maintaining strict safety and environmental compliance. The visit highlighted OMC’s commitment to balancing productivity with worker safety and sustainable mining practices.
Kodingamali Bauxite Mine: Enhancing Output and Sustainability
On the second day, the team visited the Kodingamali Bauxite Mine, accompanied by Koraput Collector and District Magistrate Manoj Satyawan Mahajan (IAS) and other senior district officials.
Key discussions focused on:
- Current production levels and strategies to enhance output.
- Sustainable and environmentally responsible mining practices.
- Streamlining dispatch of raw materials.
- Safety measures and long-term expansion plans for the next five years.
The meeting reflected OMC’s proactive approach in integrating efficiency, sustainability, and safety in its mining operations.
CSR Initiatives: Strengthening Community Infrastructure
In addition to operational visits, the Managing Director reviewed several community infrastructure projects under OMC’s CSR programme at Laxmipur, including:
- Sanghana High School – improving educational opportunities.
- Laxmipur Maternity and Child Health Care Centre – enhancing maternal and child health services.
- ITI Laxmipur – providing skill development and vocational training.
- Mini Sanitation Park – promoting solid waste management and hygiene awareness.
Samal’s interactions with local authorities focused on service delivery, operational efficiency, and the positive impact of these facilities on the local population, highlighting OMC’s holistic approach to mining and community development.
