Gandhinagar: In a significant development on the day of his scheduled retirement, Gujarat Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1989 batch, has been granted a six-month extension in service. The decision by the state government, with approval from the Central Government, means Sahay will now continue as DGP until December 31, 2025, instead of retiring on June 30.
The move puts to rest widespread speculation regarding the state’s leadership transition in the police force and reinforces the state government’s trust in Sahay’s leadership.
