New Delhi: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has taken a significant step in its renewable energy journey by awarding a 300 MW ISTS-connected solar power project, capable of generating approximately 710 million units of green electricity annually. This milestone reinforces ONGC’s commitment to India’s ambitious renewable energy targets and its own goal of achieving 10 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
Driving India’s Renewable Energy Mission
The solar power project forms a core part of ONGC’s integrated renewable energy plan, which combines 300 MW of solar power with 300 MW of wind power for captive consumption across key operational hubs such as Hazira, Uran, and group entity Opal India Limited. Once operational, this initiative is expected to significantly increase ONGC’s onshore green power consumption from 6% to 47%, marking a transformational shift towards sustainable operations.
ONGC’s clean energy expansion aligns with the national mission to achieve 500 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, thereby contributing to India’s energy security and climate action goals.
Expanding ONGC’s Renewable Portfolio
In collaboration with ONGC Green Ltd (OGL), the company currently manages a renewable energy portfolio of 2.85 GW. With upcoming tenders for 300 MW wind, 600 MW solar, and 1,200 MWh battery energy storage systems (BESS), ONGC–OGL’s portfolio is projected to grow to 3.70 GW soon.
Every new project not only strengthens energy security but also reduces carbon emissions, supporting India’s transition to a cleaner, greener energy future.
Sustainable Operations and Long-Term Vision
This development is a key milestone in ONGC’s broader commitment to integrating renewable energy across its operational ecosystem. By adopting large-scale solar and wind projects, ONGC is paving the way for sustainable operations, minimizing the carbon footprint, and leading the energy sector in India towards environmentally responsible growth.
