Bhavnagar, Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday flagged off 50 state-of-the-art electric buses for Bhavnagar under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme, marking a major step in expanding sustainable urban transport in Gujarat. The buses were virtually inaugurated during the Prime Minister’s visit to Assam, where he also launched development projects worth over ₹5,450 crore.
Bhavnagar Becomes First City in Gujarat to Receive Electric Buses
With this rollout, Bhavnagar has become the first city in Gujarat to receive electric buses under the national scheme. While 50 buses were dedicated on Saturday, a total of 100 buses are planned for the city. These buses are expected to significantly enhance the city’s public transport system, providing efficient, eco-friendly, and accessible mobility options for residents.

Features of the Newly Inducted Electric Buses
The buses are air-conditioned and equipped with CCTV cameras to ensure passenger safety. They are also designed to be accessible for Divyangs (persons with disabilities), ensuring inclusive transportation for all segments of society.
PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme in Gujarat
Under the broader rollout of the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme in Gujarat, 750 electric buses are planned across eight cities in the state:
- Vadodara: 250 buses
- Rajkot: 100 buses
- Gandhinagar: 100 buses
- Bhavnagar: 100 buses
- Jamnagar: 50 buses
- Junagadh: 50 buses
- Gandhidham: 80 buses
- Navsari: 20 buses
The Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM) has been appointed as the state nodal agency to oversee the implementation and operations of the scheme.
Promoting Sustainable and Inclusive Urban Transport
The PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme aims to promote clean, reliable, and sustainable public transport systems across India. In its initial phase, electric buses have also been allocated to cities such as Nagpur in Maharashtra, Chandigarh, and Guwahati in Assam, with Gujarat now joining the national rollout.
