Noida/Jewar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport at Jewar today, a landmark project costing Rs 11,282 crore, forming part of a larger Rs 29,560 crore initiative aimed at transforming Jewar into a major aviation hub for North India.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and several Union and state ministers were present during the inauguration, underscoring the strategic and developmental significance of the project.
Airport to Transform Connectivity and Economic Growth
Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Noida International Airport, highlighted that the airport will connect the Greater Delhi region and western Uttar Pradesh with domestic and global destinations. He emphasized that the project combines “Swiss efficiency and Indian hospitality”, promising seamless operations and world-class facilities.

Filmmaker Boney Kapoor, attending the inauguration, stated that the upcoming Noida International Film City along the Yamuna Expressway will complement the airport, generating significant employment opportunities. Kapoor noted that the project could start before the upcoming elections, providing a major boost to local employment.
Strategic Remarks by Leaders
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath hailed the airport as a “runway for Uttar Pradesh’s development”, praising PM Modi for the vision and execution of the project. The airport is expected to accelerate economic growth, improve logistics, and strengthen the region’s position as an aviation and business hub.
Supporters of the BJP expressed excitement at the inauguration, anticipating the airport’s transformative impact on the National Capital Region (NCR) and surrounding districts.

Traffic and Public Advisory Ahead of Inauguration
Ahead of the event, the Noida Traffic Police issued detailed advisories to manage vehicle movement and parking. Key restrictions were placed on heavy, medium, and light goods vehicles along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and Yamuna Expressway, with emergency services granted exceptions.
Vehicles from Meerut, Ghaziabad, Mathura, Aligarh, Hapur, and Bulandshahr were redirected through designated routes and entry gates to ensure smooth traffic flow. Commuters from Noida and Greater Noida were guided via roundabouts and service lanes, while two-wheelers and light vehicles were allowed entry through Kishorpur Gate.

The first phase of the airport, built at a cost of Rs 11,282 crore, includes modern terminal buildings, runways, and cargo facilities. The project aims to position Jewar as a major aviation hub in North India, facilitating better connectivity for domestic and international travelers, while complementing upcoming economic initiatives such as the Film City project.
