Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (POWERGRID) has successfully acquired two project-specific Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) from PFC Consulting Ltd (PFCCL). The acquisition was announced on Thursday, marking a significant step in enhancing India’s power transmission infrastructure.
The two SPVs, Sirohi Transmission Ltd and Beawar-Mandsaur Transmission Ltd, are poised to play a crucial role in expanding the country’s transmission capacity, especially in the green energy sector.
Sirohi Transmission Ltd will focus on establishing a new 765/400 kV sub-station near Sirohi in Rajasthan, alongside 765kV and 400kV double-circuit (D/C) transmission lines. Additionally, it will oversee associated bay extension works at existing substations within the state.
Beawar-Mandsaur Transmission Ltd is set to implement a 765kV D/C transmission line, along with bay extension works at existing substations in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Both projects are slated for completion within 24 months and aim to bolster the Indian transmission system. These developments are aligned with the government’s vision of integrating renewable energy into the National Grid, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and achieving the ambitious target of 500 GW of renewable energy by 2030.
PFC Consulting Ltd, acting as the bid process coordinator, conducted tariff-based competitive bidding for the projects. POWERGRID, through its various SPVs, is committed to constructing and operating these transmission systems on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis, contributing to the nation’s green energy goals.
