Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, has acquired MEL Power Transmission Limited (MPTL), a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), for implementing a vital power transmission project in Madhya Pradesh. The acquisition, valued at ₹558 crore (as per NCT estimations), was carried out through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route and facilitated by PFC Consulting Limited.
Project Details: Reliable Evacuation from 2×600 MW Mahan Energen Plant
The project is titled “Transmission System for Evacuation of Power from Mahan Energen Limited Generating Station” and will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis.
Key components of the project include-
- Establishment of a 400 kV double circuit (D/c) transmission line
- Development of associated bays at the existing Rewa POWERGRID substation in Madhya Pradesh
This infrastructure is critical for ensuring the reliable evacuation of power from the 2×600 MW Mahan Energen Limited Generation Station.
POWERGRID’s Expanding Transmission Network
As of 31st May 2025, POWERGRID has–
- Commissioned 283 substations
- Operates 1,80,239 ckm of transmission lines
- Manages 5,64,961 MVA of transformation capacity
Through the adoption of advanced technologies, automation, and digital tools, POWERGRID continues to deliver over 99.85% transmission system availability, underscoring its operational excellence.
