New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), India’s leading power transmission utility, has announced the appointment of Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), effective April 1, 2026.
The decision was approved by the company’s Board of Directors following an order issued by the Ministry of Power on March 18, 2026.
Tenure and Appointment Details
Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan has assumed charge with immediate effect and will serve as CMD until July 31, 2030, or until further orders. His tenure will run until his superannuation.
Before this elevation, he served as Director (Projects) at Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. The company clarified that he has no familial or professional conflicts with existing board members and is not restricted by any regulatory authority from holding the position.

Over 33 Years of Industry Experience
An engineering graduate with postgraduate qualifications in planning, project management, and management, Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan brings more than three decades of experience in the power transmission and telecom sectors.
During his long tenure at Power Grid Corporation of India Limited, he has held several key leadership roles spanning:
- Projects and procurement
- Commercial and regulatory affairs
- Asset management and telecom
He was also a founding member of POWERGRID’s Regulatory Cell and played a pivotal role in enabling the company’s participation in competitive bidding within the power transmission sector.
Driving Telecom and Digital Expansion
As CEO of Powergrid Teleservices Limited, Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan led the expansion of the company’s telecom business and spearheaded its first data centre project, marking a significant step toward digital infrastructure growth.
During his tenure as Director (Projects), POWERGRID achieved record capitalisation and CAPEX milestones, further strengthening its position in the infrastructure space.
