POWERGRID Wins 19th Exceed Award for Outstanding CSR in Rainwater Conservation and Rural Livelihood Development

Bhubaneshwar: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), the country’s premier transmission utility, has been conferred with the prestigious 19th Exceed Award for its exemplary CSR initiatives in promoting rainwater conservation and enhancing rural livelihoods. The recognition was awarded in the CSR category for the project titled “Improving Rural Livelihoods through Integrated Watershed Management” implemented in Kalahandi, Odisha.

Award Ceremony and Recognition

The award was received on behalf of POWERGRID by Mr. Jasbir Singh, Executive Director (CSR), Gauri Jagdale, Deputy General Manager (CSR), and Mr. Amit Bhoi, Deputy General Manager (HR), Odisha, during a ceremony held in Bhubaneshwar. The honor was presented by Dr. Bhaskar Chatterjee, IAS (Retd.), former Secretary, Government of India, and former Director General of the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jasbir Singh highlighted POWERGRID’s continued commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment, stating that the recognition serves as a motivation for further enhancing CSR outreach across rural India.

Focus on Integrated Watershed Management

The award-winning project in Kalahandi, Odisha, has focused on integrated watershed management to address critical issues like water scarcity, soil erosion, and low agricultural productivity. Through a combination of rainwater harvesting structures, afforestation, and soil conservation techniques, POWERGRID’s CSR initiatives have helped local communities improve agricultural yields, strengthen livelihoods, and achieve sustainable resource management.

The project also emphasizes community participation, ensuring that rural residents are actively involved in planning, executing, and maintaining watershed activities. This inclusive approach has resulted in increased awareness about water conservation and sustainable farming practices in the region.
