New Delhi: In a key bureaucratic development, Prince Dhawan, a 2012-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, has been selected for the post of Executive Director at Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd (REC), a ‘Maharatna’ Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power.

REC has formally requested the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to relieve Dhawan from his current roles in the Delhi government, where he serves as Managing Director of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and Special Commissioner (Transport).

The appointment will be on a deputation basis for an initial period of three years, following REC’s recent round of interviews held on August 11, 2025, for the Executive Director post. Sources confirm that Dhawan was chosen for his dynamic administrative track record and alignment with REC’s strategic vision.

Strengthening Leadership for Power Reforms

REC, the nodal agency for several central government flagship programs like the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), is expected to benefit from Dhawan’s administrative acumen. The RDSS aims to enhance operational efficiency and financial sustainability of power distribution companies (DISCOMs) across India.

By onboarding a high-performing IAS officer, REC is reinforcing its leadership capacity as it accelerates rural electrification, energy access, and power sector reforms.
