Burnpur – In a step toward advancing green industrial practices, the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has commissioned an organic waste composting machine at its IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal. The move forms part of the company’s broader CSR strategy aimed at strengthening environmental sustainability and promoting circular economy principles.
The newly installed machine transforms dry leaves and biodegradable waste into high-quality organic compost. The compost will now be used to support landscaping, horticulture, and green belt development initiatives in and around the plant premises.
Turning Waste into a Green Resource
By converting organic waste into usable compost, SAIL is aligning its industrial operations with eco-conscious waste management strategies. The initiative helps reduce landfill pressure, cuts down on open waste burning, and improves overall soil fertility—making it a valuable asset for both the plant and the surrounding community.
Plant officials stated that this sustainability-focused intervention supports India’s national mission for clean, green industrial operations and promotes responsible corporate environmental stewardship.
Building a Greener Future Through CSR
This green initiative at the IISCO Steel Plant is part of SAIL’s long-term commitment to environmental care. Through consistent efforts to reduce waste and reuse resources, SAIL continues to implement impactful CSR projects that integrate operational efficiency with ecological well-being.
With every such step, the PSU reinforces its role as an industry leader dedicated to sustainability, innovation, and community welfare.
