New Delhi: State-run NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) has secured an 80MW/320MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Kerala, following a competitive e-reverse auction conducted by NHPC on May 21.
According to a regulatory filing, the project will provide a power backup of 80 megawatts for four hours, helping enhance grid reliability and support renewable energy integration in the state.
The tender was part of NHPC’s broader initiative to develop 125MW / 500MWh Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected standalone BESS in Kerala. NGEL emerged as the successful bidder for two major projects under this auction.
While the Letter of Award (LoA) is still awaited, the win marks another step forward in NGEL’s strategy to strengthen its footprint in India’s growing energy storage sector.
The project aligns with India’s national renewable energy goals and comes amid an accelerated push toward flexible, clean energy infrastructure.
