New Delhi: NTPC Limited announced on Thursday that its flagship 3,300-MW Barh Super Thermal Power Project in Bihar is set to become fully commercially operational on July 1, 2025, with the commercial supply commencement of Unit-3 (660 MW) under Stage-I.

The Barh project, a key power infrastructure initiative by the state-owned energy giant, comprises five units of 660 MW each — three under Stage-I and two under Stage-II. While four units have already been commissioned, Unit-3 is poised to mark the final milestone toward full operational capacity.

Project Milestones and Capacity Details
Stage-I Units:

  • Unit-1 (660 MW) commissioned in November 2021
  • Unit-2 (660 MW) commissioned in July 2023
  • Unit-3 (660 MW) expected to become operational on July 1, 2025

Stage-II Units:

  • Unit-4 (660 MW) commissioned in November 2014
  • Unit-5 (660 MW) commissioned in February 2016

Once Unit-3 begins commercial operations, the Barh project will reach its full installed capacity of 3,300 MW.

Impact on NTPC’s Overall Capacity
The project’s completion will boost NTPC’s total installed capacity to 60,978 MW on a standalone basis, and 82,080 MW on a group basis, consolidating its position as India’s largest power producer.
