PSU Push for Green Mobility: BEML Flags Off First Electric Vehicle Fleet, Commits to Diesel-Free Future

Launch Coincides with World Environment Day, Aligns with ‘Go Green’ Initiative

In a significant move toward sustainability, BEML Limited, a leading public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, launched its first fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) at its corporate headquarters in Bengaluru. The event, held on the eve of World Environment Day, underscores the company’s strong commitment to environmental stewardship and supports the Government of India’s ‘Go Green’ initiative.

Diesel Phase-Out Announced
Marking a pivotal shift in its operational strategy, BEML announced a complete phase-out of diesel-powered vehicles across its fleet. The inaugural deployment saw 10 electric cars ceremoniously flagged off by Shantanu Roy, Chairman and Managing Director of BEML, accompanied by the company’s functional directors and senior executives.

Leadership Remarks on Sustainability Vision
Speaking at the launch, CMD Shantanu Roy stated, “On the eve of World Environment Day, this initiative is a reaffirmation of BEML’s deep-rooted commitment to environmental stewardship. Transitioning to electric vehicles is not just about reducing emissions – it’s about leading the way in sustainable practices and setting new benchmarks for the industry.”

EV Rollout: A Step Toward Carbon Neutrality
This EV rollout forms the foundation of BEML’s broader vision to integrate sustainability across its entire business landscape. The initiative aims to support carbon neutrality goals by deploying EVs not only at the headquarters but also at manufacturing complexes and regional offices nationwide.

To support this transition, BEML is investing in EV-supportive infrastructure, including charging stations and energy-efficient transport solutions, across its four major manufacturing plants.

A Public Sector Pioneer in Green Mobility
With this move, BEML joins a growing cohort of forward-thinking public sector undertakings (PSUs) embracing clean energy solutions. The shift is expected to reduce the organization’s carbon footprint, encourage industry-wide sustainable practices, and establish BEML as a future-ready and environmentally responsible organization.
