Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), a leading manufacturer of heavy machinery and equipment, has received the esteemed “Self-Certification” status for its defence equipment from the Department of Defence Production (DDP), Government of India. The certification was presented by Mr. RA Govardhana, ADGQA (V&EE), HQ DQAV, to Mr. Shantanu Roy, Chairman & Managing Director of BEML Ltd., during a special ceremony held at BEML’s headquarters.

This self-certification represents a significant recognition from the DDP, empowering manufacturers to certify the quality of their products directly. It highlights BEML’s commitment to maintaining high standards of reliability and consistent quality in its defence manufacturing processes. This status reflects BEML’s ongoing capability to produce defect-free defence products that meet stringent quality requirements.

Upon receiving the award, Mr. Roy stated, “We are proud to accept this certification, which not only showcases BEML’s dedication to quality but also strengthens our commitment to the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat. We are eager to further our mission with renewed determination to support our defence forces.

Mr. Govardhana congratulated BEML on attaining the ‘Self-Certification’ status, emphasizing that this recognition illustrates the company’s professionalism, dedication, and expertise. He encouraged BEML to continue enhancing its contributions to the defense sector and to align with the government’s initiative of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in defense production.

The certification awarded to BEML is valid for three years and encompasses a wide range of 842 items across its defence equipment, manufactured and delivered without the need for additional third-party inspections. This achievement demonstrates the government’s confidence in BEML’s capabilities and motivates the company to maintain and surpass its quality standards. BEML has consistently received a high Supplier Rating, exceeding 90%, and adheres to Quality Management System (QMS) standards as per ISO 9001:2015.

With a history dating back to the 1980s, BEML has become a vital player in India’s defence sector, providing an extensive range of products including rocket and missile launchers, Armoured Recovery & Repair Vehicles (ARRV), High Mobility All-Terrain Vehicles for radar and communication, and tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). BEML specializes in sectors like mining, construction, and defence. With a focus on innovation and quality, the PSU has been playing a crucial role in supporting infrastructure development across the country.

As a crucial contributor to India’s defence capabilities, BEML has achieved 100% indigenization across several key platforms, such as the Pontoon Bridge System, Aircraft Towing Tractor, Aircraft Weapon Loader, 50T Trailer, Wagons, BMP Transmission, and Ejector Air Cleaner Assembly. This focus on self-reliance has established new benchmarks in India’s defense manufacturing landscape.

Globally recognized for its quality, BEML has exported over 1,200 pieces of equipment to 68 countries, enhancing India’s reputation in manufacturing and innovation on the world stage. The company’s commitment to research and development has positioned it as a trusted international partner, reflecting India’s ambition to become a leader in high-quality defence production.
