New Delhi: NTPC Limited, India’s leading power utility, has officially announced that its step-down subsidiary, NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), has commenced commercial operations of the final 120 MW under Unit-II of the 220 MW Shajapur Solar Project in Madhya Pradesh. With this milestone, the entire project has now been successfully commissioned.
The commercial operation began at 00:00 hours on June 29, 2025, marking a significant addition to the company’s renewable energy portfolio.

Executed Through NTPC Green Energy Limited
The project has been implemented through NTPC Green Energy Limited (NGEL), a subsidiary dedicated to spearheading NTPC’s renewable energy expansion. NGEL is tasked with scaling up large-scale solar, wind, and hybrid energy projects as part of NTPC’s vision for a sustainable future.
This achievement was formally announced under Regulation 30 of SEBI’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR), 2015, and has been communicated to both the NSE and BSE.
Strengthening India’s Renewable Energy Goals
With the full 220 MW capacity of the Shajapur Solar Project now online, NTPC reinforces its commitment to low-carbon power generation and supports the national objective of increasing renewable energy share in the power mix. The project is expected to deliver clean electricity to the grid, helping reduce dependency on fossil fuels and significantly lowering carbon emissions.
NTPC’s Expanding Green Footprint
NTPC has been steadily increasing its investments in green energy, with a target to achieve 60 GW of renewable capacity by 2032. The successful commissioning of the Shajapur project is another step in that direction, showcasing the company’s ability to deliver on time and at scale in the renewable sector.
The commissioning adds to NTPC REL’s rapidly growing solar portfolio and strengthens NTPC’s position as a key player in India’s energy transition.
