Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL) has won the 15th Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC) Vishwakarma Award.
It won under the category of ‘Achievement Award for Best Construction Projects’ for its Barauni – Guwahati Natural Gas Pipeline Project (BGPL).
The award was received by GAIL’s Director (Projects) Deepak Gupta and Executive Director (Projects) A K Tripathi at a function on 4th of April in New Delhi.
The BGPL project is an integral part of Jagdishpur – Haldia & Bokaro – Dharma pipeline project. It has connected North East India with National Gas Grid for the first time. This 718 km pipeline will act as a access of environment friendly fuel natural gas for entire a North East through Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL).
Some prominent customers are Indian Oil Refineries in Guwahati and Bongaigaon, and nine Geographical Areas for City Gas Distribution across Bihar, West Bengal and Assam.
This project also faced natural challenge of crossing the mighty Brahmaputra river. But the construction and engineering challenges were overcomed by team GAIL’s hardwork.
GAIL has been one of the major contributor to growth and development of Natural Gas pipeline infrastructure and Natural Gas Market. Its existing natural gas pipeline network covers 20 states and 3 union territories.
The CIDC Vishwakarma Awards have become a great motivating force for individuals and organizations to raise their standards of performance in their respective domains.
