The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) is set to establish a 5 lakh square feet office space in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), according to its Chief Executive Dilip Asbe. The new facility, expected to be completed within three years, will accommodate around 5,000 employees.
NPCI, which oversees key payment systems such as UPI and NEFT, currently operates from a rented office in BKC along with two additional offices in Jogeshwari and Goregaon. The new headquarters will enable the consolidation of its workforce, particularly the 1,000 employees already based in Mumbai, Asbe stated.
Highlighting the organization’s growing focus on artificial intelligence, he emphasized the need for expanded office space to support future developments.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority had allocated a commercial plot in BKC to NPCI in October last year. BKC is home to several financial sector giants, including SEBI, SBI, ICICI Bank, and Citibank.
Asbe also noted the rapid growth of credit transactions on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform. Currently, UPI accounts for about 8% of total credit card spending, while RuPay contributes 16%, with half of these transactions occurring via UPI.
