Sat Pal Bhanoo Takes Over as MD & CEO of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) on Interim Basis Until September 2025 – Know More About Him

Mumbai: Sat Pal Bhanoo, Managing Director of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), the state-owned insurer, has formally assumed the financial and administrative powers and functions of the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of the Corporation.

After the conclusion of Siddhartha Mohanty’s tenure, the Indian government has appointed Sat Pal Bhanoo, a serving Managing Director at LIC, as the interim CEO and MD of the Life Insurance Corporation of India.

The temporary assignment came into effect on June 8, 2025, and will continue for a period of three months, i.e., until September 7, 2025, or until the regular appointee assumes charge – whichever comes earlier.

In a regulatory filing, LIC stated: “The Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance, vide its letter dated June 7, 2025, has conveyed the approval of the competent authority, entrusting the financial and administrative powers and functions of the CEO and MD of the Corporation for a period of three months effective from June 8, 2025, up to September 7, 2025, or until the assumption of charge of the post by the regular incumbent, whichever is earlier.”

Veteran Insurance Leader with Over Three Decades of Experience

Sat Pal Bhanoo is a seasoned LIC veteran who began his journey with the Corporation as an Assistant Administrative Officer in October 1988. Over his illustrious career spanning more than 36 years, he has acquired deep institutional knowledge and operational expertise across nearly all verticals within LIC.

An alumnus of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, Bhanoo holds a bachelor’s degree in History (Honours). He has consistently climbed the organizational ladder, holding key positions at both the divisional and zonal levels.

A Track Record of Leadership Across Key LIC Divisions

Throughout his career, Shri Bhanoo has led several important LIC divisions and departments. He served as In-charge of the Bengaluru-1 and Shimla Divisions, gaining hands-on experience in both urban and semi-urban markets.

His experience also includes significant roles such as

  • Regional Manager (Corporate Communications)
  • Regional Manager (Micro Insurance)
  • Chief (Senior Business Associate), Central Office Marketing
  • Regional Manager (Personnel & Industrial Relations), Northern Zone, Delhi

Before his elevation to the post of Managing Director, Shri Bhanoo served as Zonal Manager (In-Charge) of LIC’s Central Zone in Bhopal, further solidifying his credentials in top-tier operational management.

Steering LIC Through a Transitional Phase

The temporary delegation of CEO powers to Bhanoo comes at a time when LIC is navigating a dynamic insurance landscape amid rapid digital transformation, competitive market pressures, and policyholder expectations. His proven administrative acumen and deep-rooted understanding of the Corporation’s culture and strategy are expected to ensure continuity and stability in LIC’s leadership during this transitional period.

The official appointment was notified through LIC’s internal communication and comes with the approval of relevant authorities.
