Chandigarh: Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government continues to work with dedication and commitment for the welfare of marginalized, poor, and economically weaker sections of the state. This was stated by Dr. Baljit Kaur, Minister for Social Security, Women, and Child Development.
Financial Assistance Reaches Millions
Dr. Baljit Kaur informed that under various social security schemes, the Punjab government has directly disbursed over ₹5,748 crore to beneficiaries up to January 2026 (financial year 2025-26). More than 35.70 lakh beneficiaries have received regular and continuous financial support, ensuring economic security for the poor, elderly, women, children, and persons with disabilities.
Scheme-Wise Disbursement
The minister provided a detailed breakdown of the assistance:
- Old Age Pension: ₹3,806.43 crore
- Widows and Destitute Women: ₹1,099.97 crore
- Orphans and Dependent Children: ₹385.94 crore
- Persons with Disabilities: ₹456.03 crore
These schemes not only provide financial aid but also restore dignity and independence for beneficiaries, empowering them to lead a self-reliant life.
Social Welfare Beyond Financial Support
Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized that the success of these initiatives is measured not just in monetary terms but by the positive impact on beneficiaries’ lives. She said, “When an elderly person receives an old-age pension, a widow becomes self-reliant, or a differently-abled person stands on their own feet, that is the true success of the government.”
