Following a spell of unseasonal rain and hailstorm across the northern states in March when standing crops were affected, the government of Punjab has directed administrative secretaries to monitor wheat procurement in their respective districts during the ongoing Rabi season.
Vijay Kumar Janjua who is the Punjab Chief Secretary has directed IAS officers to make their visits to mandis or grain markets and hold meetings with deputy commissioners and procurement agencies in order to ensure seamless procurement of wheat.
They will also share reports with the Chief Secretary about the loss of wheat crops due to the rain and hailstorm in their respective districts.
