Chandigarh: As Punjab battles one of the worst floods in recent history, members of the Indian Police Service (IPS) in the state have stepped up to support relief and rehabilitation efforts by donating one day’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The Punjab Police announced the initiative on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), stating, “In solidarity with the people of #Punjab affected by the devastating floods, all #IPS officers of the state have resolved to contribute one day’s salary to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. This contribution is a humble gesture to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.”
The statement further added, “Beyond policing, we see it as our humanitarian duty to stand with our fellow citizens in this hour of distress.”

AAP MPs and MLAs to Donate One Month’s Salary
In a parallel effort, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders have pledged to go a step further. Party convener Arvind Kejriwal announced that all AAP MPs and MLAs across the country will donate one month’s salary to aid flood-affected families in Punjab.
“All Members of Parliament and MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party – from Delhi, Gujarat, Kashmir, Goa and across the country – are donating their one month’s salary to the Punjab CM’s Relief Fund,” Kejriwal said, calling the situation an “unprecedented crisis.”
Kejriwal urged all political parties, state governments, and the central government to “rise above politics” and extend their support to Punjab.
Floods Impacting Multiple Districts Across Punjab
The flooding in Punjab has been triggered by heavy rainfall and the overflowing Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi rivers, along with seasonal rivulets swollen by rain in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.
The worst-hit districts include–
Pathankot
- Gurdaspur
- Fazilka
- Kapurthala
- Tarn Taran
- Ferozepur
- Hoshiarpur
- Amritsar
Thousands of families have been displaced, and local administration and disaster response teams continue their rescue and relief operations under difficult conditions.
Humanitarian Efforts Beyond Duty
The Punjab Police reaffirmed their commitment, not just to law enforcement, but also to supporting citizens in times of disaster:
“Together, with compassion and collective effort, we will overcome this challenge and help rebuild lives.”
