Chandigarh: The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is ramping up initiatives to ensure the health, security, and dignity of senior citizens through the ‘Our Elders, Our Pride’ campaign. The campaign focuses on grassroots interventions to directly benefit the elderly population across the state.
Nearly 9,000 Senior Citizens Benefited Across Punjab
Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur shared that under the campaign, nearly 9,000 senior citizens have registered and participated in district-level health camps.
“These camps reflect the government’s people-centric approach, ensuring seniors receive timely healthcare and support,” said Dr. Kaur.
Health Camps Cover Multiple Services
The campaign provides comprehensive medical and wellness services. Among registered beneficiaries:
- 2,268 received general health check-ups
- 1,241 underwent orthopaedic examinations
- 2,607 received eye check-ups
- 631 participated in yoga sessions
- 551 availed homoeopathic treatments
- 791 benefitted from ayurvedic health services
Dr. Kaur highlighted that these figures demonstrate the wide outreach and effective implementation of the campaign across Punjab.
Assistive Devices and Pension Services Provided
Under the ALIMCO scheme, 243 senior citizens were registered, with 89 receiving assistive devices such as wheelchairs, spectacles, and hearing aids.
Additionally:
- 233 old age pension forms were processed
- 306 senior citizen cards were issued during the camps
These measures aim to enhance mobility, independence, and financial security for the elderly.
Government Appeals to Families for Maximum Participation
Dr. Baljit Kaur urged families to bring their elderly members to these camps, ensuring they benefit from the government’s welfare initiatives.
“Ensuring the health and well-being of senior citizens reflects the Bhagwant Singh Mann Government’s commitment to public service,” she said.
Vision for Senior Citizen Welfare
The ‘Our Elders, Our Pride’ campaign represents a statewide effort to honour senior citizens, combining healthcare, wellness, and social support to enhance the quality of life for Punjab’s elderly population.
The initiative aligns with the government’s broader agenda of people-centric governance and inclusive development.
