Punjab Power Regulator Keeps Electricity Tariffs Unchanged for 2025-26

The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) has announced the electricity tariff structure for the financial year 2025-26, ensuring no increase in charges for domestic consumers.

Despite the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) reporting a revenue deficit of ₹5,090.89 crore and requesting a tariff hike, PSERC’s detailed assessment found a revenue surplus of ₹311.50 crore, eliminating the need for any increase.

Changes in Tariff Slabs

To simplify billing, the existing three-slab tariff system for domestic and non-residential consumers has been revised into a two-slab system. However, this adjustment does not impose any additional financial burden on consumers.

For domestic users exceeding 300 units of consumption:

  • Households with loads up to 2 kW will save around ₹160 per month.
  • Those with loads between 2 kW and 7 kW will see a reduction of ₹90 per month.
  • Consumers with loads between 7 kW and 20 kW will benefit from a ₹32 per month decrease.

Similarly, non-residential consumers with a load of up to 20 kW and usage below 500 units will experience a reduction in their electricity bills by approximately ₹110 per month, as the variable charge has been reduced by 2 paise per unit.

Adjustments for Industrial and Large Supply Consumers

For large supply consumers, the tariff structure now includes only two slabs:

  • Consumers with loads between 100 kVA and 1,000 kVA will see fixed charges reduced to ₹210/kW from ₹220/kW.
  • Those with loads above 1,000 kVA will have fixed charges of ₹280/kW, which is lower than the previously existing merged slabs.

Additionally, the special night tariff scheme for industrial users, applicable from 10 PM to 6 AM, remains in place. Under this scheme, fixed charges are reduced by 50%, while the energy charge has been revised to ₹5.50 per kVAh from the previous ₹5.31 per kVAh.

New Category for Residential Complexes

A fresh category has been introduced for single-point electricity supply to residential colonies, multi-storey complexes, and cooperative group housing societies. This category comes with reduced fixed and variable charges, offering cost benefits to such residential setups.

The new tariff order aims to provide relief to consumers while streamlining the electricity billing process.
