Pantnagar: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a developed India can only be realized when farmers become self-reliant and empowered in every aspect of agriculture. Speaking at a ‘Farmers’ Conference’ organized to mark the Silver Jubilee of the state, CM Dhami reiterated the government’s commitment to improving farmers’ income, welfare, and productivity.
Farmers at the Heart of Development
CM Dhami said, “It has been my good fortune to be associated with an ideology and political party for which farmers have always been a priority.” He added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has consistently supported farmers, and under PM Modi’s leadership, farmers have been empowered like never before. “The Prime Minister has ensured that the journey from seed to market for farmers is smooth and profitable. Financial assistance is being provided to 11 crore farmers through the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi,” he said.
Financial and Crop Support Measures
Highlighting key government initiatives, the Chief Minister noted that there has been an unprecedented increase in the minimum support price (MSP) for all major crops. Farmers have also been provided with protection through crop insurance schemes, ensuring financial stability in case of crop failure. “Scientific soil testing is being conducted to enhance productivity, while various farmer-friendly schemes are being implemented to support agricultural growth,” he said.
Promoting New Opportunities
CM Dhami also spoke about initiatives to link tea plantations with tourism, providing new employment opportunities for youth and women. “Our government is working with dedication for farmers’ welfare. We have allocated Rs 200 crore for the construction of poly houses to increase farmers’ income. So far, 350 poly houses have been established with Rs 115 crore assistance,” he said.
Policies for Fruit, Vegetable, and Millet Growth
The Chief Minister further announced steps to enhance production of fruits and vegetables, including the new apple and kiwi policy and the State Millet Mission. “We have increased the rate of sugarcane by Rs 20 per quintal. These measures aim to boost productivity and income for farmers across the state,” he added.
Remembering Uttarakhand’s Farmers in State Formation
CM Dhami concluded by acknowledging the role of farmers in Uttarakhand’s creation. “I thank the farmers for joining the campaign 25 years ago demanding a separate Uttarakhand. Their dedication and support have been instrumental in shaping the state’s history,” he said.
