CM Vishnu Deo Sai Launches Ambikapur–Delhi–Kolkata Flight Service to Boost Air Connectivity

New Alliance Air flights to connect Surguja with Delhi and Kolkata, enhancing tourism, trade, and regional development

Raipur: In a major push to strengthen regional air connectivity, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai virtually inaugurated the Ambikapur–Delhi–Kolkata flight service from the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose State Police Academy in Chandkhuri. The initiative is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, trade, and tourism in the Surguja region.

Direct Air Connectivity for Surguja Region

Congratulating the residents of Surguja, CM Vishnu Deo Sai said that the launch of direct flights to Delhi and Kolkata will open new avenues for economic growth, tourism, and business expansion. He credited public representatives and the local Member of Parliament for making this Facility possible.

Affordable Air Travel Vision Taking Shape

Highlighting the vision of Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said the goal of enabling even a “common man wearing slippers” to travel by air is becoming a reality in Chhattisgarh through improved aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity schemes.

Expansion of Aviation Infrastructure in Chhattisgarh

The Chief Minister emphasized that the state government is continuously working to expand air services across key cities. Key developments include:

  • Night landing facility at Bilaspur Airport
  • Introduction of the ‘CG Vayu’ scheme in the state budget
  • Launch of cargo services at Raipur Airport to boost local products in national and international markets

Deputy CM Highlights Improved Connectivity

Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma noted that the introduction of a 72-seater aircraft service at Ambikapur (Darima) will further strengthen connectivity between Delhi, Ambikapur, and Kolkata. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to expand air connectivity in Jagdalpur and other parts of South Chhattisgarh.

Alliance Air to Operate Flights

The flight services will be operated by Alliance Air, with operations scheduled four days a week. Ticket bookings have already commenced on the airline’s official platform, providing convenient travel options for passengers.

Flight Schedule Details

Delhi Route (Monday & Wednesday):

  • Monday: Arrival in Ambikapur at 11:35 AM via Bilaspur; departure to Delhi at 12:00 PM
  • Wednesday: Arrival at 10:25 AM; departure via Bilaspur at 12:00 PM

Kolkata Route (Thursday & Saturday):

  • Thursday: Arrival at 8:50 AM; departure via Bilaspur at 9:15 AM
  • Saturday: Arrival at 10:00 AM; departure at 10:25 AM

Development of Maa Mahamaya Airport

The Maa Mahamaya Airport in Darima, Ambikapur, has been developed under the regional connectivity scheme. Spread across approximately 365 acres, the airport has undergone major upgrades:

  • Runway extended from 1500m to 1800m
  • Terminal upgraded to handle 72 passengers
  • Parking facility for around 100 vehicles
  • Four-lane road connectivity to the terminal

All development works have been completed as per DGCA standards.

Boost to Tourism and Local Economy

Ambikapur, the headquarters of the Surguja division, is a key administrative, educational, and commercial hub of North Chhattisgarh. The region is rich in natural resources and tourist attractions such as Mainpat and Tatapani.

With direct air connectivity to the national capital, the region is expected to witness increased tourism, better market access for local products, and enhanced investment opportunities.

The launch of the Ambikapur–Delhi–Kolkata flight service marks a significant milestone in Chhattisgarh’s aviation sector. It is set to transform connectivity, accelerate economic development, and bring the Surguja region closer to major metropolitan cities.
