Rajasthan DGP Rajiv Sharma Cracks the Whip on Crime Control, Reprimands IPS Officers in Review Meet – Know More

The DGP also pulled up Jaipur Police Commissioner and SPs from various districts over rising crime rates and road accidents

Newly appointed Director General of Police (DGP) of Rajasthan, Mr. Rajiv Sharma (1990-batch IPS officer), has sent a strong message to the police force by holding a high-level crime review meeting with all District SPs, DCPs, and Police Commissioners via video conferencing. In a rare move, the DGP not only reviewed the performance of serving officers but also held those recently transferred accountable for their previous postings, signaling a tough stance on crime control.

During the meeting, Mr. Sharma reprimanded two IPS officers for their unsatisfactory performance, making it clear that a transfer does not absolve them of responsibility for lapses in their previous jurisdictions. He warned that such negligence will not be tolerated, urging all officers to step up and improve their work on the ground.

The DGP also pulled up Jaipur Police Commissioner and SPs from various districts over rising crime rates and road accidents. In response, some officers cited a shortage of investigation staff, including Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, and Assistant Sub-Inspectors. However, Mr. Sharma dismissed these excuses, stating, “Shortages existed before and may persist, but this cannot be an alibi for poor performance.”

A stern directive was issued regarding history-sheeters, with Mr. Sharma declaring that SHOs will be held directly accountable if any known habitual offender commits a crime. He emphasized that it is the SHO’s duty to monitor the activities of such individuals and take preventive action. “There is no place for leniency toward known criminals,” he added.

In a significant shift from previous review meetings that typically involved ADGs and IGs, Mr. Sharma held one-on-one discussions with all SPs and Commissioners—a move not seen in several months. He instructed officers to intensify patrolling, enforce regular station inspections, maintain punctuality and discipline, and conduct crackdown operations against illegal activities.

Additional directives included prioritizing disposal of pending cases, reducing case backlogs, and launching focused investigation campaigns for serious crimes. DGP Sharma made it clear that accountability, visibility, and field supervision are the cornerstones of his leadership strategy for law enforcement in Rajasthan.

The meeting marks the beginning of an assertive and performance-driven policing regime under DGP Rajiv Sharma, who appears determined to tighten the grip on law and order across the state.
