Jaipur: In a historic first for Rajasthan, a husband-wife duo from the Rajasthan Police Service (RPS) has been promoted to the Indian Police Service (IPS).
Pushpendra Singh Rathore and his wife Kamal Shekhawat are among five RPS officers elevated to IPS rank, marking a rare milestone in the state’s police history.
Along with the couple, Piyush Dixit, Vishanaram, and Avanish Kumar Sharma have also been promoted. All five officers are currently posted as Additional Superintendents of Police (ASPs) in various districts of Rajasthan.
Promotion Cleared by UPSC
The promotions were cleared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) after the selection committee’s meeting held on August 21, where the 2024 IPS Select List was finalized. These appointments were made to fill existing vacancies in the Rajasthan cadre of the IPS.
A senior official confirmed that the state government will soon issue a formal transfer and posting order for the newly inducted IPS officers. Until then, they will continue to serve in their current ASP roles.
Other IPS Transfers
Alongside the promotions, the Rajasthan government also transferred two IPS officers on Tuesday–
2012 batch IPS officer Adarsh Sidhu, previously serving as Commandant, 12th RAC Battalion, New Delhi, has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Police (SP), Pali.
Kewal Ram Rao, earlier posted as SP, Human Rights, Jaipur, has been transferred to replace Sidhu as Commandant, 12th RAC Battalion, New Delhi.
Significance of the Promotions
This marks the first time in Rajasthan’s history that a married couple from RPS has been promoted to IPS together. The move has been widely appreciated across police circles for recognizing long-standing service and integrity.
The rare dual promotion underscores the commitment of both officers to public service and is seen as an inspiring moment for others in the force.
